Commissions & Gifts

Did you know that you can collaborate with me to design a custom piece for your home or for a gift? If you like my style but have something specific in mind, I’d love to hear your vision! Below, you’ll find some examples of commissions I’ve done, as well as custom pieces I created and gave as gifts. My specialty is colorful, figurative work, but I am also able to create abstract pieces, as well as select portraits.

If you’re interested in exploring the commission process, email me at taylor@taylorbamgbose.com or fill out the form below and we can talk about size, style, budget, etc. in more detail. When we land on a shared vision, I can give a rough estimate of cost. If you’d like to move forward with the process, we’ll agree on timeline and process the first payment (half up front, half due upon delivery).

Let’s start creating!

The Matriarchy

This series of five portraits depicts the matriarchal line of my client’s family. Hannah, her grandmother; Mary Jo, her mother; Mary Ann, my client; and her daughters, Hannah and Maura.

Invincible Summer

The inspiration for this piece came from a quote by Albert Camus that my client loved: “In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, there’s something stronger—something better—pushing right back.”

Santa

This custom painting was created as a gift from my client to her husband for his 70th birthday. It features a portrait of his late mother, Santa.

My client and I collaborated to create this unique piece, replacing the headpiece in the reference photo with this flower crown, and choosing a color scheme of reds, greens, and whites as a subtle nod to her Italian heritage.

Lemon Tree

This piece was created for a collector in Chicago who wanted to decorate her daughter’s nursery with a citrus theme. The bright colors and adorable polka dots gave this painting just the right amount of cuteness and whimsy.

The Power of She

This project was for a couple (both artists themselves!) in Indianapolis, IN. They wanted something vibrant, diverse, and powerful to bring a pop of color and interest to their bedroom. The painting was inspired by the following poem by e. russel:

never underestimate the power of she

When the Time is Right

When this Indianapolis couple saw a previous work of mine featuring a group of women holding flowers, they knew they wanted their own. This piece, like the first of its kind, is inspired by a poem by Rudy Francisco:

No matter what you ask of
the daffodil, it will still
wait until spring to bloom.
From this, I learned
we all open up when
the time is right.

Untitled

This painting was completed for an Indianapolis couple looking to put the finishing touches on their new house with local art. We explored a few different abstract concepts via mock-ups I did on my iPad before landing on this minimalistic yet colorful design.

Untitled

This client in Chicago had just moved into a new apartment and wanted to add some interest to her walls. She had seen a previous abstract piece of mine that she liked, so we started with a similar concept and customized it to her preferred color scheme, with a few unique details.

No. 2

This subtle, nuanced, and tranquil beauty was created for the new office of a company in downtown Indy. The designers wanted to include the work of local artists, so we brainstormed a custom concept that would fit their style. Blue, in all its variations and shades, symbolizes depth and stability. It’s long been associated with characteristics such as trust and wisdom. Not only are these important qualities to demonstrate to visitors in the office, but the calming tones also serve as a welcome relief for staff in the middle of a busy workday.

I created this close-up floral piece as a birthday gift for a dear friend who owns her own flower business, Willow and Star Flowers.

Bone-Deep Love

A friend of mine commissioned me to create this piece to give as a gift for the wedding of a neurologist and a heart transplant surgeon. Taking into account the bride’s interest in both flowers and anatomy-focused art, we came up with this unique and creative painting.

A Sign of the Times

This piece was created for a client in Milwaukee, WI who wanted to liven up his office with original art. With his interest in graffiti and political art in mind, I created this painting as a reflection on some of the issues our society grapples with in personal and public realms: outrage culture, political divisiveness, privilege and willful blindness, technological advancement and displacement, invasions of privacy, censorship, conversations around gun control, immigration and police brutality, moral relativism, and rising struggles with anxiety and depression.

This triptych was created for a couple in Chicago, IL who wanted a focal piece for their living room. The soothing base of turquoise, deep blue, brown, and raw sienna brought together elements of their decor, while the pops of orange and yellow provided a jolt of energy and interest.
